Search on here for "knife-edge cutover". Many good threads with many posts to the many (generally bad) RIM docs.

It is not that bad to do.
After server prepping meeting all prerequistes, took me only 20 min.

Bored, so might as well do what I recomend so often, The Knife Edge Cutover

Yeah 20 mins with a remote database . But barring issues that RIM don't document (but are always answered here!!), proper prep should result in something you can do in an hour-ish, depending on your setup.

Yeah, If using MSDE it might add more time since the osql commands can be fun first time around.

Those articles are great to follow.

To sum up the move, your Phone Data is stored in two places - The BESMGNT Database (assuming you did not rename it), and the Exchange Mailboxes(Assuming Exchange Server).

You do not need to do anything to the Exchange Data, assuming the server works OK.

You need to move the DB to a new SQL server, unless you have used an external one, and it still is OK. (Default is to use the MSDE installed by RIM - That one you have to move)

You need to reinstall the server on a new box, or whatever you are moving it to (VM, it sounds like).

You need to tell the server where the new(or old) DB is.

Just DO NOT start both servers at the same time - if RIM detects your SRP in use by two servers, they disable it, to prevent Man in the Middle attacks on your data. This requires phoning them, which can leave you down for 20 minutes to 10 hours, depending on when they answer. My worst hold time was 4 hours.

All of this is explained in the posts, I just figured a summary of what happens might help you - I could have used one.

Default BES database move successfuly, but old servername showing up in BB Manager

Hi

Thanks for your help.

I have successfuly moved the database from the old server. And it's working.

But Now the old servername shows up in the BB manager, I removed the blue icon for the old server by, moving the users. and clicking "remove Blackberry Enterprise Server" but the other green named <servername>_MDS-CS_1 still shows up.

How do I remove this?

I don't know for sure coz never done it but I would imagine you do this to remove MDS_CS (but ensure you are running fine through your new server's MDS_CS first, as this provides Intranet access on the BBs and internet access through your BES):

BB Domain > Global > Service control and Customization > Delete MDS Connection Service

I would RTFM first though personally, I am still asleep :->.

Tryed and got:

"There are no qualifying connection services entries to delete. They must be mapped as servicing any BES and must be uninstalled (no service present on the server."

How to do?

Mapping is done here BB Domain > Global > Service control and Customization > MDC_CS to BES Mapping but I wouldn't go any further. It wants you to uninstall the service and that means you won't be able to service MDS_CS requests at all, even using the new name. Assuming you still need MDS_CS on here, just against the new BES name, I would wait for someone who knows what they are talking about, coz I obviously don't

Looks like you cutover using a new BES instance name.
There should of been only one blue one.
A second green one will pop up if not using same Netbios name on the server.
The green one can be removed once remapped.

KB13393

osql -E
1> use DatabaseName
2> go
1> delete from MDSConfig where ServerName = <ServerName>
2> go

This solved this.
