Default BES Upgrade from Ver 4.0.1.16 to Ver 4.1.6

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Currently we have a BES ver 4.0.1.16 with email services on Exchange 2003 servers.

We are planning to upgrade to Exchange 2007 Server & hence we decided to upgrade BES to 4.1.3 or higher.

Also, we decided to virtualize the BES on ESX 3.5. Hence we finalized to upgrade BES to 4.1.6 which is supported in ESX 3.5.

Now, we have to perform 2 activities

1. Upgrade BES from Ver 4.0.1.16 to Ver 4.1.6
2. Virtualize BES on ESX 3.5.

What is the best way of achieving this ?
Is it better to upgrade first & then virtualize ?

Referring to BES 4.1.6 Upgrade Guide, I decided to go for "Upgrading the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by using a new computer" method & use the virtual machine as the new computer. However, the procedure for this was unclear.
If this is the recommended method, please elaborate on the procedure.

Thanks!!!

Upgrade old box to 4.1.6 and wait a few days to see if all is ok.
Then build a fresh VM with all prerquisties

Then do knife edge cutover to VM.

Also look at my notes when I did a cutover

Bored, so might as well do what I recomend so often, The Knife Edge Cutover

After all is well apply MR4

Then follow 2007 recomendations
