Default BES has flipped out!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have inherited a BES installation (Ver 4.1.4.15) which as far as I can tell has been happily running for 4/5 months but has recently gone AWOL.

The message forwarding etc still works so the clients are synchronised all the time which suggests all the 'behind the scenes' stuff is fine. The problem is when I open the BES manager, an error message pops up which says...

Cannot find 'res://C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\SMBbbmgrw32.exe/blank.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct

...When I 'OK' this message another pops up. This happens 10 or so times, each time the message is the same but the name of the html file changes. Eventually the manager will open but the console is blank. I can see the users on the 'user' tab but cannot right-click on them to edit, activate etc.
If anyone has any clues about this it would be great, if not I guess my next option is re-installing the BES software, which has its own set of questions!

If I un-install does the database remain intact or get removed too?
Can I just re-install over the top without un-installing first to perform a 'repair' of the software?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Well the first thing is... back up the database and make sure you know the SRP key. The BES can be rebuilt fairly easily as long as the db hasn't been affected.

Having said that, you might find all you really do need to do is reinstall BES over top of it.

Or if you're like me, you don't want to inherit someone else's problem and simply wipe the computer.

Or combine those two options, get it working and start building it on a fresh server - if you do this method, keep in you CAN'T have two servers using the same SRP at the same time.

What TargetIT said but once you have backed up etc you could just try applying SP6 and MR4, which gets you to the latest release. You don't have much to lose and the file refresh might fix you.

Dont jump the gun on a rebuild just yet.

Did you log in as BESAdmin?

in the registry HK_CU\Software\Research in motion \BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Management\Database
Is it pointing to the correct database?

OK, I'll make double sure I have the D/B backed up before I start 'playing'!

I tried upgrading/applying service packs but they don't recognise that BES is installed or something bizarre?

True but the BBs are working fine, doesn't that imply db connection or am I missing summit as usual?

I know but you said "SP's wont install if DB can knot be accessed by BES". Do you mean "can knot be accessed by BBM", as the BES must be accessing the db to keep the BBs running...

Yeah, logged in as BESAdmin and it's pointing at the correct D/B in the registry

I have now resolved this problem. For some reason Internet Explorer 7 was playing up, once I uninstalled IE7 BES came back to life.
