Default Question about Domino knife-edge KB04261 document

Please Login to Remove!

Perform a cutover to another BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance in an IBM Lotus Domino environment

In Task 3, for 4.1.2 or higher when you are updating computer names...

1> update ServerConfig set ServiceName = 'CN=<domino_server_name>/O=<organization_name>' where ID=1

Our new server is named something like

CN=BES-01/OU=USA/O=SERVERS

Question is should I put in the OU even though it's not listed in the RIM document?

Second question is this command

1> update MDSConfig set MDSHost = '<new_computer_name>.dns.com' where ID=1

Assuming here I put in the FQDN of the new server (and not server.dns.com). They didn't bracket "dns" as they did for other variables.

Thanks!

Let me answer my own questions now from experience not theory.

If you put in the OU it will throw an error. It will only take it without it. Somehow though, I ended up in BlackBerry Manager with two "servers"... BES-01/SERVERS and BES-01/USA/SERVERS. The BES-01/SERVERS was the one populated with the migrated users but it was disconnected from the Domino server so 0 users were showing when BES started.

Called RIM support and they walked me through modifying the SQL tables to fix this and we cleaned up a couple other things.

Assumed correct.

Thanks for other threads on MSDE to SQL and Knife-Edge migrations. Thanks also to KB12247 and KB04261 and RIM support!

The ID=1 also assume it is the first BES in the database. If it is not the first BES you install the ID will be different.

The ID=1 should have been ID=x where the BES admin needs to determine first by examining ServerConfig prior to the cutover.
