Default msde to sql failed

Please Login to Remove!

Ok so I tried to moved the msde db to sql but it failed, bes kept stopping when starting services in bes manager. Did all the preparation of the sql and permissions beforehand, re-wrote the remaining instructions in something a little clearer but clearly missed something out but this is the gist of it right?

prepared the sql server but didnít create a new db.
I stopped the services on bes.
Opened sql and connected to the bes database and backed it up and stopped the bes msdeserver. I then restored it back to the sql instance. Permissions done.
Opened bb server config and changed the bes database to the new sql location. Started services.

Did you do everything as besadmin?
Any log entries?

Sounds like perms to me.....

I did, logs query i think when besadmin connects to master, just working them out. it did ask for permissions when connecting to the db and when i reverted back it was asking for sql instance permissions

Also when you backup the main db i would assume you also have to do the same for the mds db if you have setup mds services?

I don't use MDS sorry but there is separate stuff you have to do for the MDS dbs IIRC and I think you might have missed that stuff. Double check the docs and go back over your steps as MDS and/or db perms sound like the issue.

Yeah like I said there is a specific section (and work) for the MDS dbs in the docs but you should be able to spot them in the docs as I always see them even though I don't need to worry about them.

yeah you create the backup, copy the database folder from the bes install to the sql program files folder, edit the besmgmt.cfg to change server to sql instance, run createdb then restore. think this is right....
