Talking BES 4.1.4 / Exchange 2007 / Srvr 2008 (64Bit) + Srvr 2003 (32Bit)

Please Login to Remove!

Hey All!!

Hoping someone could help me out here, I just got done with a transition from Exchange 2003 and Server 2003 up to Server 2008 Standard w/ Exchange 2008 Standard (64Bit).

Mailboxes / Public folders all moved to the new box w/o any issues, now comes the hard part... BES.

I am keeping my BES 4.1.4 on a Windows 2003 32Bit platform, although when I went to un-install the BES and re-install today, it reloaded with all my users again!

I was prompted to choose my MAPI profile (which I directed to my 2008 box, which was found no problem).

Although when I try to remove users, now they are all sitting in a pending delete period, and they will not budge! I assume this is some sort of permissions error, but I have double and triple checked all permissions, and set the new ones accordingly with the exchange management shell.

I was wondering what I need to do to fully purge the BESMgmt database (most recent?) or any older databases possibly still in there, and do a fresh install on that box.

I should probably say that I've already attempted to osql from command prompt and purge them manually, although when I did that, no users showed in any tables?!

Also - what is the status on having your BES 4.1.4 on a Win2k3 Box (32Bit) and having your Exchange server running Server 2008 Standard (All 64Bit). Is this compatible?

If there are any guides or anything someone could point me to that would be great.

I appreciate any help in advance!

I should also mention that this is professional edition

knottyrope -

Thanks for the documents.

I've looked over the compatibility issue, and understand that Exchange 2007 and BES 4.1.4 are SOMEWHAT supported.

I guess my biggest worry would be - Does it really matter What OS Exchange is installed under?? (i.e - Server 2003 64Bit as opposed to Server 2008 64Bit)

Also , when going into Add/Remove programs from the server my BES was on, and completely removing and restarting it - what is lingering around that when I reinstall BES, it is populating with all my users again?

for exchange 2007 upgrade your BES to SP6

It doesnt matter what OS you are running

when you install BES and point it to OLD or exisitng BESMGMT database it will populate all users, IS this DB hosted on a seperate SQL server or local install of SQL or MSDE ? make sure when you you reinstall BES point to new DB e.g BESMGMT01

SoUnCool - thanks for reply. 4.1.4 is running as well as MSDE database.

This is an update on my situation after 4 1/2 hours on the phone w/ RIM today.

We have verified ALL permissions on existing BES account, and even created a secondary and reset all permissions in case their was corruption on the original.

Did a clean install of BES (including wiping the DB) which is hosted locally on the server we are installing BES on.

For the life of us, we CANNOT get the BBAgentService to start. All other BB services start perfectly fine, except for the messaging service.

We have added it to the Data Execution Prevention list, and also verified the install we were using by rechecking registry. Still no dice.

Has anyone had any problems w/ this before?

thanks alot!

There might be a slight upgrade waiting.

Verify the installation
1.On the taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Click Add/Remove Programs.
3.In the list of programs, click BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
4.Click Support Information.
5.Verify that the version number is 4.1.4 (Bundle 183) this is for 4.1.4b which is latest version.

knottyrope -

Should I actually click "remove" will I be prompted for another box? there is no support option in the add/remove programs window.

Inside the manager it tells me:

Version 4.1.4.17

USB Channel Controller: 3.1.0.1
Device manager: 4.2.2.7
Application Loader: 4.2.2.13
RIM Intel Programmer: 1.0.0.35

Also -

Nothing in the event log/logs to indicate it is failing to start.

There is no MAGR log being created for the messaging service either.

thanks!

knottyrope - thanks for the help man, I appreciate every bit!

I know this isn't a simple fix - and RIM Tech support simply told me to put this on another box (that was their "fix" for it).

There has to be SOMETHING!! it was working up until the point when I performed the migration...

anyway....

The Information Store was not started.
Information Store is started for sure, or else I would have alot of other issues on my hands right now!

Quote:
The Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile was created with a profile wizard.
Verified settings w/i Blackberry Server Configuration, and the correct Exchange server and mailbox are set.

Quote:
The organization's security settings are configured to prompt for a password.
Windows NT Password Authentication is set by default.

Quote:
The service account for BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software was deleted.
I have both my original BESAdmin account, and now a secondary BESAdmin2 for fear the 1st was corrupt. They resolve perfectly fine from the BES server and can be accessed via OWA/webmail; with all necessary permissions double/triple checked.

Quote:
The mailbox of the service account for BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software was migrated to a new server and its location has not been updated through directory replication.
Again, if this were the case (and I DID upgrade from Exchg2003 to 2007) I would have covered this issue by creating the secondary BESAdmin2 account and resetting permissions on the Exchg2007 box.

Quote:
The Server Routing Protocol (SRP) identifier was not listed in System Info.
Not sure if this pertains to me as I am using Exchg 2007.

Quote:
The service account for BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software is not configured correctly in a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003 environment due to one of the following reasons:

* Permissions and group membership for the service account are incorrect or missing
* The MAPI profile for the service account is incorrect or the profile is not specified
Permissions have been double/triple checked, with 2 different accounts, and MAPI resolves w/o any issues from the BES server.

Microsoft Exchange Server has been upgraded to Windows Server 2003 with Microsoft Exchange 2003. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software is installed on a computer that is running Windows Server 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager.
n/a for obvious reasons.

Quote:
The service account for BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software does not have access to the Global Address List or the service account is not visible in the Global Address List. This is typical in hosted environments where the Global Address List needs to be isolated to separate organizations that buy the hosted services.
I actually thought this was going to be my golden ticket until I logged into a users account via OWA/RDP and checked the GAL only to find both listed.

Quote:
The current service account for BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software is corrupted and cannot access mailboxes for BlackBerry smartphone users.
This would fall under the second account that I've spawned.

Quote:
The Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server has been installed using native mode.
I am allowing all backwards compatible clients to connect to the Exchg2007 server.

Quote:
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server services are not set to log on as the service account.
I have changed the log on due to which account I am using, and they all start perfectly fine.

Maybe MAPI encryption is set to Required on the Microsoft Exchange Server.

Resolution
Complete the following steps to configure the two MAPI profiles on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to use encryption.

Configure the MAPI profile used by the Blackberry Manager for encryption:
Click Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > Edit MAPI Profile.
On the Advanced tab under Encrypt information select the When using the network check box.
Click OK.
Configure the MAPI profile used by the Blackberry Enterprise Server for encryption:
Click Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server > BlackBerry Server Configuration.
On the BlackBerry Server tab click Edit MAPI Profile.
On the Advanced tab under Encrypt information, select the When using the network check box.
Click OK to save the change.
Click OK to exit the BlackBerry Server Configuration.

The issue why the BlackBerryAgent service was not running was because after the fresh install of BES Professional Edition, we were checking to see if the messagining service was running before integrating any users with BES.

Once we tried to add a test user he activated no problem.

So thanks for everyones help!

However, when using BPS on Server 2003 R2 SP2 I have had full compatibility with Exchange Server 2007 SP1.
