Default BES 5.0.0 - delete calendar entry in OL no sync - 06-09-2009, 10:37 PM

My New BES 5 installation has 2 synchronisation problems:
If I delete a calendar entry in outlook, the deletion is not synced to the BB
The same applies for a note.

I can however move, change calendar and notes, both directions sync
If I delete a note or calendar entry this is synced to Outlook.

Email sync works ok, Addressbook also.

I verified the mapi and cdo versions, they are the same.

I use Exchange 2000. It might be related to this. But before I think about upgrading to 2003, I would like to ask if someone could verify this.
It could be a bug also.

thanks.

Per the compatibility matrix it is supported.

Has this always been the case? How long are you waiting for the change to propagate? What about if you perform a reconcile now from the handheld?

hdawg,

This is interesting, in the pdf upgrade guide, there is written:
"System requirements: Messaging server
Any of the following messaging servers that is located in close proximity to where you want to install the primary BlackBerry®
Enterprise Server:
• Microsoft® Exchange 2003 or later
• Microsoft Exchange 2007 or later
• Microsoft Exchange mixed environment (Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007)
"
not a word regarding exchange 2000

-------------------
I cant tell if this always was the case with the 4.1.6 version i had before, but, I guess, I would have noticed the problem if was there previously. Cant try out it any more now.

I waited for about 1 Minute. Other changes replicate within seconds.
Doesnt "reconcile now" only syncs email ? I try that again.

I found no messages in the logs of the BES which are looking suspicious.

one thing is strange:
When I execute the test programm in the utilities folder iemstest.exe, It will tell me all tests are ok. However, at the end, it reports "no send/receive as" rights detected. I double checked this. besadmin has send receive rights for all mailboxes, also besadmin is an admin of Exchange System.

When the iemstest is executed, an error is logged in the application log:
{my@email.addr} - GetAndCreateFolderInfo OpenFolder failed (0x8004010f). FolderID=0

I also thought about installing Exchange 2003 management tools on the BES, but then, CDO and mapi versions will be different from exchange - which most likely ist not a good idea.

Big surprise ... a flaw in RIMs documentation. Use the compatibility matrix as your true reference.

A reconcile now processes all queued reconciliations on the handheld and those needing to come in from the server. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Double-check your permissions

I would advise against doing that. While the MAPI/CDO components only need to meet OR exceed the version of the messaging server, if at all possible it is best to keep them at the same version.

Thanks four your help hdawg,
I checked the permissions again. I had this installed a little different, sind I granted the besadmin user admin rights for the whole exchange organisation.
Changed this to the recommended setting, rebooted the BES server.

Still behaves exactly like before.
Doing a "reconcile now" will not sync the deletion in outlook to the BB

There is one thing I think of:
I recently set outlook to "Dumpster always on", to be able to undelete from all Folders.
Also the "hard delete" option in the BES server is on.
(however, when I delete a calendar entry, it shows up in the trash as it should)

Maybe, there is a correlation between these settings and my problems ?

It will delete when I use Web-Access!
What the most mysterious thing is,
It now will also delete if I do it in Outlook !

I dont have a good explanation for this. Maybe you ?
( I had to reboot the server serveral times today and reinstalled parts of SRV2k3 SP2, my last test was before this)

Many thanks hdawg, it looks like the problem is gone, at least for the moment.
