Hi Guys and Girls,

Im trying to setup my Traittool to run 3x a week. I am getting the error message below. Does anyone have any ideas?

Unexpected error occurred: Login timeout expired
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connec
ting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the d
efault settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].

Nope

I am curious about it though, Could you give us some more info on where you ran it? Are you using SQL? Is named pipes enabled? Did you run it as BESAdmin?

seriously ... didn't wait 3 hours for a response to a question that probably very few people might know. How many people do you know that use TraitTool.exe?

Here's your problem:

Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server

You're running the exe from a machine other than one with your SQL server?

Read: KB03112 - How to move the BESMgmt Database to a new SQL Server or instance

and look at Step 2 Task 2 ... specifically the part about enabling named pipes.

hehe...my apologies just paranoid i guess...
What does this mean? " You're running the exe from a machine other than one with your SQL server?"

I am running the exe from the BES server with the BESADMIN credentials using SQL 2005...

Thank you guys once again...

hdawg possibly means,
The machine where you execute the traittool.exe from, is this the same machine, where the database server is installed ?

if yes: open the SQL configuration manager/console, check,if named pipes are active.

however, I found no config parameters for traittool, where you could specify the protocol it uses to connect to the database server. Maybe the error message is more general/wrong, and the program uses TCP/IP, and, if this does not work, it tries named pipes.
So, in the SQL config manager, look under TCP/IP ipV4 protcol, and enable access for both the loopback ( 127.0.0.1) network, and the IP address for your machine. Then, try again traittool.
