Default New to BES management - 06-18-2009, 02:32 PM

Hi all,

I have been left in a bit of a mess by someone departing unexpectedly and I am in need of some help. I need to move a few mailboxes to a new Exchange 2003 server within the same domain. A handful of these users are BB users. My question is: Do I need to "tell" BES that these users have moved? If so, how? Also the new Exchange is a fresh install, configured and working (I have tested a few normal mailboxes with it). Is there anything that I have to do to this new Exchange server from a BES point of view? Please don't think I am lazy for not reading the documentation, but as I said, I have been dropped in to this and I'm just looking for some quick pointers.

Regards, Jim

Read all of these:

KB11776 - How to move a Microsoft Exchange mailbox for a BlackBerry smartphone user

KB00142 - Cannot send or receive email messages because a mailbox has been moved

KB02276 - Assigning permissions for a BlackBerry Enterprise Server service account

You need to grant the BESAdmin account permissions on the new mailbox server ... and after you move you'll want to do a handheldcleanup.exe.

OK, so I assigned all the permissions that the BB account has on mail1 to mail2.
I moved the mailbox using Exchange Tasks. I restarted Blackberry Dispatcher and Blackberry Controller. Ran HandHeldCleanup.exe -u and it picked up that the mailbox had moved to a different server. Now the user can receive emails on their BB device but not send. What else can I try? I tried removing and re-adding with another user and still the same problem, can receive but not send.

Thanks

On HH:

Message Status: Desktop Email program unable to submit message

I have checked all the permissions and they appear to be correct. If it helps, Server1 is a Domain Controller, users here are fine. Server2 is a Member Server, users here can not send but do receive.

Many thanks

Have you triple-checked the Send As permissions?
KB04707 - Unable to send email messages because Send As permission has been revoked - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection

This user isn't a Domain Admin, or in a group with elevated AD privileges, right?

Been through the permissions with a fine comb. I even wrote them down on paper and had one of my colleagues go through them. The only thing I haven't done is stop the BB Router service for 2 hours as indicated in KB04707. Will have to wait till Saturday night to do that.

He was a domain admin , but I removed him from the group and re-applied the permissions. Still no go.

Thanks

Actually, that is not correct. A user can be a member of the Administrators group either in the Domain or locally on a server and it will have no issue with the Send As permission. Domain Admins is a group that would cause trouble.
