Default New BES Server / New Hardware

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings,

Been a while since I have worked much with BES. We are looking at bringing a new server online and our objective is to install BES on this new server hardware and then move the user accounts to this new BES Server.

We are currently running version 4.1.4.15 and we are thinking we will install the same release on the new server hardware. I have read a bit about a Knife-Edge cutover, but I am leaning towards bringing the new server online, installing BES, and then migrating user accounts to this new server. After all of the user accounts (around 12) have been migrated to the new hardware and we test to ensure connectivity, etc. then we would decommision the older BES server hardware.

In general, is this approach desirable?

I am a little unsure over the "Moving" the SRP Identifier and the Authentication key to the new server. Still hunting for info on that...

Thanks for your insight and wisdom.

If you want to perform the approach that you're mentioning you'll need a second SRP as an SRP can only be online and connected from a single server at a time. I would not recommend this approach for such a small installation.

I would recommend performing a knife-edge straight to 4.1 SP6. Your user base is small enough so it'll be quick change. The hardest part is just making sure you get the database properly setup. Are you using local msde / sql or a remote SQL server?

hdawg,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Yea, the more I read the more I am leaning towards the knife-edge cutover. We have a maintance window that should allow me to migrate without too much grief, hopefully.

We are using a local MSDE SQL server. Not sure how that might complicate things at this point in time. Any insight into that issue?

Thanks again.

KB05041 - How to move the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a remote Microsoft SQL

KB03112 - How to move the BESMgmt Database to a new SQL Server or instance

Please ask questions if you have any doubt with any steps.
