Default BES spam filtering?

Please Login to Remove!

I am having a similar issue with a specific BES user.

What we're running:

Windows Server 2003: Intelligent Message Filtering (IMF) enabled and running good, Connection Filtering Block Lists - SPAMCOP, PSBL, and ZEN enabled and running good.

BES 4.1.4.15 enabled and running good.

One user is reporting high amounts of SPAM (100-200 messages per day). Seemed to have happened after switching BlackBerry handsets. Same issue -- has Outlook on laptop. Outlook is filtering SPAM to Junk folder after it hits the Inbox. SPAM messages which Outlook filters to Junk are not filtered to Junk on the BlackBerry no matter if the 'Hide Filed Messages' option is enabled or not. Have also tried enabling/disabling redirection of the Junk folder -- to no avail.

No other users are reporting this issue -- and the user never had this issue in the past.

Also tried yet another different BlackBerry handset. Wiped device, deactivated/reactivated account in BES. Wiped device, deleted/reactivated account in BES. None of this has solved the issue.

I understand how the SPAM filtering works and it makes sense that the BlackBerry retains the junk messages (somewhat), but it does not make sense that this issue did not happen in the past.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

This works for AV but also for spam

Delay mail processing for an anti-virus scan

Does the user keep his laptop and Outlook running at all times (24x7)? The Junk filter works when Outlook is running. When Outlook is running, it moves a message to Junk, and if 'Hide Filed Messages' is set on the BB, it should hide on the BB. If the user doesn't keep Outlook running 24x7, Junk will go to the BB when Exchange/BES receives it, and then when Outlook is started, Outlook will move Junk messages to the Junk box only at that time. So re-syncronizing on the BB is needed to "hide" messages. Could this be a problem with the BB not auto-syncronizing properly so that messages get hidden? Does the user's problem occur when Outlook is running as well as when it is not running?
