Default New BES setup on domino but do have existing one

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys

I need help

scenario:

We got already BES running on lotus domino6.5.5 on a very old server machine.
BES version is also quite old 4.0.4.3 . Database is a seperate server.

Issue : We want to put latest BES 4.1 for domino on a new server machine.
and get rid of the old box but using the same database server.

Steps done so far:
1- Build up a new windows 2003 server with domino 6.5.5 installed and talking with current mail server.
2- Got the software BES 4.1 for domino.
3- Allow new server to talk to RIm canada on port 3010 through firewall

Questions/Concerns:
1- I need steps to install & transfer over all BBs to the new server.
2- After reading some docs I came to conclusion that i can proceed to install server and point to db and it will populate the all BBs but in that case both servers will be online at the same time on the network , i mean old one and new one

please reply thanks

Why not install a newer version of Domino? I mean 6.5.5 will work ... but if you're using newer elsewhere might as well do the same on this box.

Good; what version? 4.1 RTM? 4.1 SP6? Something in the middle?

You mean Port 3101? You followed KB03735 - Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection, right?

Read: KB04261 - Perform a cutover to another BES instance in a Lotus Domino environment

(You already have the database remote, so that is a big time saver / help) ... you're not moving the users ... the users live in the database

Both servers cannot be online at the same time. Before you start the installation process for the new server you should stop and disable all BlackBerry services on the other server (in case it reboots so they don't automatically start up).

Questions:
Do I need to create a fresh db and later choose "change database" to point back to old db or during the installation connect to exisiting db ( bear in mind that names are different now)
Do i need to copy the BES folder under c:\louts\domino\data to the new server?
Do i need to update the domino and windows server new name information in the current blackberry db.

You realize ... all of these questions are already answered in the KB article provided ... nonetheless, here are answers; again.

You can do this or you can use CreateDB.exe to create a skeleton database which you'll overwrite (I'd recommend this process myself)

Yes

Only for MDS-CS

Default things got changed , explain in simple words

Existing Setup:
Server 1
BES 4.0
Lotus Domino: 6.5.5
Db: BES2 (remote SQL server)
SRP ID: old
SRP auth key: old
No of BBs = 30

New Setup: (need to be done)
Server 2 (different netbios name)
BES 4.1.6
Lotus domino 6.5.5 (different lotus domino server name , org and domain is same)
Db: BES2 (same no change)
New SRP ID
NEW SRP authentication key

Task:
Get rid of server 1 and move everything to new server 2 ,

Latest Problem facing

N0-1:
I have shutdown server 1 (current BB server) and backup the BES db .Install fresh BES on the new server pointing to the old SQL db, it upgraded the db and finished the entire installation .server restarted, open BB manager, it shows 2 lotus domino server (old & new). All 37 users shows under old lotus server and nothing under new lotus server.

N0-2 :
Right click one user and try to move 1 user to the new server , I can see the error on lotus consolexxx8221; state db not foundxxx8221; . I copy the BES folder from c:\lotus\domino\data to the new one but its says state db corrupted on the new disk structure for that user or may be for all users

Question:
1-How to update db to point to new lotus notes server? The command available on the net to update db assume that you got everything same except the server name but our case is different as we got new SRP keys and new version of bes as well.
2-how to move users successfully to new server.

Do you now have 2 permanent SRPs?

Do you plan on keeping the new SRP on the new server?

yes after getting new SRP ID and keys now we got 2 SRPs but we not gonna use old SRP , what ever is there on old server its become history , we are just interested in the db the rest all throw away. I have entered new SRP on the new server.

I am afraid if we need to create new db as a last resort then i have to re-initialize all BBs, all of them gone to their respective peoples in their cities.

thats why i do not want to create new db.

thanks for ur consistent help, hopefully we can resolve this issue.

As long as you're sharing the same BlackBerry Configuration Database you'll be able to simply drag / drop users between the servers and you won't have to manually Enterprise Activate them on the new server.

While this KB article specifically addresses Exchange BES it is most relevant for Domino BES also: KB12304 - Migrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to new hardware

thanks for sharing the article and I have carefully read it.

as i said moving users not a problem i did the same thing as mentioned in the given article, right click and move but it says state db not found .

i know state db found under c:\lotus\domino\bes folder.

I copied the c:\lotus\domino\bes folder to the new place and it says db corrupted on disk structure.

its quite frustating now :(

Default Thanks for your help.everything has resolved.

Guys

Thanks for your help.everything has resolved.
but I followed my own steps with help of the links available on BB forum.

FY KB BES for Lotus Domino

In the above scenario particularly where everything change except the db.

If you got exact above scenario.
1. Shutdown BB and lotus on the old one.
2. Install the new BB ver. on the new server as per normal instructions and connect to the current db, after installation shutdown BB and lotus on the new one.
3. Copy the BES folder from old server to the new server under same location c:\lotus\domino\data
4. On the new server, go to the command prompt, change directory to c:\lotus\domino\data and run nfixup bes ( while bes is the folder u just copied under this location) ( this will fixup all inconsistencies)
5. nupdall bes –R ( this will re-build and update all views)
6. ncompact bes –c ( this will correct all corruption in all dbs inside)
7. turn on BB and lotus notes on the new one
8. turn on only lotus on the old one , stop all BB services. ( this will allow one by one user migration and delete user from old lotus notes)
9. Open up BB on the new server and move user 1 by 1 and u can see that this user would be welcomed by the new server and rock and roll xxx61514;
