Default BES 4.0.2 for Domino - How to configure "BlackBerryContr" service under W2K

Please Login to Remove!

Hello friends,
I have a problem with the "BlackBerryContr" Service in W2K-Service,
the service allocate memory from the nonpaged pool until the whole server crashed, my question, is it possible to configure the BlackBerry Controller, we saw that the service tried to send syslog via UDP and Port 514 to unknown adresses..........
Do you have any idea???

The BES uses system logging (syslog) to broadcast events via the UDP.
Open the following registry key:
HKEY_LM_Software\Research in Motion\Blackberry Enterprise Server\Logging Info\
Create a DWORD value named SysLogEnabled inside the Controller sub key within the Logging Info key. Set the DWORD value you created to "0" , without the quotes. The change will require a restart of the BES server. You may have to repeat this for the remaining sub key entries if the problem is not resolved. Do not alter the mailbox agent or the handheld config entries.

Default Mate!!!!

Dev, i solely signed up to tell you what an absolute legend you are!

This problem has dumbfounded me for about six months and was driving me crazy. So many packets hitting the ISA firewall that I have the BES going through and filling up the logs and making them meaningless.

After making those changes exactly as you described, worked perfectly.

Are these switches documented anywhere? Google, Emails and phone calls to the appropriate support in RIM and our service provider yielded no results for me.

Thanks again!

I believe I must have read it somewhere while I was researching something entirely different...something on OpenBSD, and can't remember. However there was a "How To" document on RIM's site -KB-02224-that describes setting up sylogging thru the default UDP port. I'll try to find the exact source just to give credit where it's due. Glad to be of help in this forum.

Smile what will happen after "SysLogEnabled" is set to "o"?

Hi dev,

I'm encoutering the same problem & think your idea is a great solution.
But I wonder what will happen after we set the "SysLogEnabled" to "0" ?
Is that mean after that we can no longer get the BES logs in BES Server?
I haven't tried it because for me the logs folder is important to check for the errors if something wrong is happening in the BES Server.
Thanks a lot for your kind attention.

Regards,
ysutanto
