Default Questions about BES Setup

Please Login to Remove!

Most of my family have BlackBerry devices (Curves, Pearls, a Storm and a Bold) on various US providers (AT&T, T-Mo and VZW), but all are on BIS... until now. My daughter just got a Curve (8330) on VZW and will be on BES... My son called me with some questions that I could not answer... so here goes:
  1. The device was activated, but my DIL forgot her password so everything got wiped. She claims she only entered the password incorrectly ONE time... can an IT Policy set that? How realistic is it that they would force-wipe the device after one incorrect attempt?
  2. At this point she has not reactivated the device on her BES server... does that mean somethings are missing? We cannot find the icon for BBM. She was able to access the internet to download a theme, and she did receive a PIN message that I sent.
  3. I had her go to OPTIONS / ADVANCED OPTIONS / HOST ROUTING TABLE / and registered the device. Now she has a service book for BlackBerry Internet Service - this does not seem right.
  4. If there is an IT policy enabled/enforce on this device, how can I tell? How can I tell what its restrictions are?

I have not physically seen the device - only going on what my sone has told me, so I trust the above is true and accurate, but no guarantees (kids!)

I'd appreciate anything that would help me sort this out.

1. Not possible. The minimum number of attempts that can be set via IT Policy is 3.

2. If she hasn't gone through a new Enterprise Activation yet, then she's missing all of the functionality that BES offers. (Email, MDS Browser, Address Lookups, Remote Search, etc...) The IT Policy, however, will still be in effect.

3. Not a problem. The BES data plan offers BIS functionality also.

4. Options > Security Options > General Settings. There's no way for you to see what restrictions are in place.

Thanks, I appreciate the answers.

1. I expected that... she is good at "exaggerating" things...

2. Makes sense.

3. I thought so, but wasn't sure.

4. I was afraid of that one. "You can't do some things. What we don't let you do is a secret"...
