Default How to install BES backup server

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,
I'd like to install a 2nd BES server in my infrastructure and I hear something about a "license problem".
There's something to pay attention during the installation? I've BES 4.1.6 and an SQL server DB on another machine

Do you have a second/spare SRP and Key? If not you will not be able to install it. Each BES has to make it's own connection to RIM's NOC to validate the SRP. If you DO have an extra SRP, just install it like normal and point to the besmgmtdb on the sql machine. This will insert a new BES into your BB domain. Then you can move users back and forth between the two servers via the bb manager.

No, I've not a second key. Can I use the same and disable the services on the first BEs during the 2nd installation?

Technically you can. If both servers have different names and are using the same db you will see both of them in the BlackBerry Domain.

So the procedure is to disable all the services on the 1st server. Install the second server using the same DB and the same license and then start the service on the 2nd server.
If I want to swith again on the 1st one I've just to disable the services on the 2nd and activate on the 1st
Isn't it?

Yes, but be VERY careful... if you are trying to have a spare BES in case the first goes down, you need to install the second BES using the same BES Name... The server host name can be different. If you do what x14 described, when you stop the first and start the second, you will have to MOVE all of your users via the bb manager to the 2nd server. But if you use the same BES name, you will only have 1 BES in the BB domain and when the 2nd comes up it will start processing for the users...

Yes, for sure using the same BES name.
Thanks to all
Is there any document that describe this procedure?

Just follow knife edge cutover and keep services off on the backup server.

Also MDC CS mappings might cause some trouble when switching back.
