Default cdo.dll versions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

A few months ago we converted the last of our users from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. I'm now going to remove Exchange system manager from the servers. However the ExchangeMapiCdo.msi file provided by Microsoft is constant changing so I'm a little unsure. In fact I was looking at cdo.dll version 6.5.8069 (included in the package) and I think yet another update has come out using 6.5.8131 in the last couple of days.

If you look on the compatability matrix (April 2009) the last version recomended by RIM is 6.5.8022 (for 4.1.6). Should I be trying to source that file from somewhere? MS doesnt seem to have it up on thier site as soon as the newer versions come out.

What versions are people using here with Exchange 2007 and BES 4.1.6?

usually the latest version is recommended. But the compatibility guides on BlackBerry - BlackBerry Enterprise Server Compatibility are not yet updated.

6.5.8069 is on the list. Probably 6.5.8131 will be the new recommended version.

Use the latest version ... highly doubtful you'll run into any problems.

Just got a reply from RIM and basically they are saying that 8022 is what they reccomend but they understand many customers are using the newer version without a problem. So I'm going to go with 8131 as I think this deals with the daylight saving changes here in Australia.

This comment was in thier response "Our products leverage Microsoft's CDO package for their time zone information, so once Microsoft updates their time zones, ours will be updated as well."

So that tells me I should always be running the latest cdo.dll. As 8131 was released at the same time as the new Exchange 2007 server patches thats probably the best bet.

Haven't gone down this path yet, but next week we're moving from Exchange 2003/Windows 2003 to Exchange 2007/Windows 2008. BES Is staying at 4.1.6 for now, but in reading a RIM KB on the Exchange move I had some questions. Called support and ended up speaking with a 2nd(?) level tech who indicated that it's very important that BES have MAPI/CDO versions that are at least the same or later than the versions that are on the Exchange box. He told me that if the BES versions are older than the Exchange versions, BES will work initially but will eventually 'break'. Not sure what would change once the system is stable, though.

BES will work initially but will eventually 'break' ... honestly, whoever says things like that should not be answering technical support calls.

It works, it doesn't, or it works with limitations ... eventually 'break' ... come on.

Everything I've read indicates that the version should be => than the version on the Exchange box, but you're right. I would assume that if it works and nothing changes in the environment, it should continue to work. We're moving to Exchange 2007 in the next couple of days and I plan on updating the BES side of things during the process. Keeping fingers crossed...

Was on the phone with RIM support after an Exchange 2003 to 2007 migration. Ran into problems with removing Exchange System Manager from the BES server. Got bumped up to a server support rep who was able to help me resolve the issue. While BES was rebooting I asked him about this and he said that the system will not 'break' but indicated that performance would be better. And, he told me that RIM runs ESM 2003 on their machines against Exchange 2007 with no problems. Sounds like the guy I talked to a few days ago wasn't quite correct...
