Default SQL Server Migration - MDS Database (SQL2000 to SQL2005)

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I'm just trying to combine all of the applicable KB articles on blackberry.com into a process that will allow me to migrate my BES/MDS databases from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 - and am trying to make sense of the KB article which explains the process to follow to migrate the MDS databases (KB12714).

In particular, I'm interested in the instructions which explain changes to the Database Owner, etc: Step 3, Points h to n. These instructions seem to be written with SQL Server 2000 in mind - and I'm wondering what the equivalent is for SQL 2005.

Can any suggest whether (a) this is required under SQL2005, and (b) what the equivalent Steps would be for the new SQL version..??

Cheers - and thanks,
Scott

Do you use MDSS / MDS-IS? ... or just MDS-CS? If you don't use it ... don't move it. The equivalent is true for 2005. I don't have a console in front of me, but it is the same requirement.

Thanks for the post. I'm not a BlackBerry-ite, but I'm reliably informed that we run MDS-CS.

Any thoughts on how the instructions in the KB article that I referred to would need to be changed for SQL2005..??

Cheers,
Scott

If you're not using MDSS .... don't migrate the mdss databases. MDS-CS doesn't use its own database; it uses the BESMgmt database that the other services use.

If the SQL permissions are X in 2000 ... they'll need to be X in 2005. Same permissions ... just a different process. Anyone with SQL experience will be able to figure it out in a few seconds ... anyone without SQL experience could figure it out with a quick trip to google on configuring SQL permissions.
