Default BES Upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

We would like to move BES to new hardware. We are currently running BES version 4.1.4 against MSDE (SQL 2000).

I would like to install SQL Express (SQL 2005) on the new server (VM). I currently plan on running the same version of BES on the new hardware.

I have looked at a Knife-Edge cutover and a phased approach and am leaning towards the Phased Appoach. It looks like I will need a new or temporary SRP, though I am unclear at this point how to obtain this SRP for the migration. Can I obtain a temp SRP from RIM? I sent an email to their sales team a few minutes ago so perhaps they will get back with me to clarify that matter today.

Anyone have any general thoughts on Knife Edge vs. Phased approach? Also - does anyone know how to deal with the SRP matter?

TIA

For your needs... knife-edge all the way.
It's very simple. Just follow RIM's guide and you shouldn't have any issues at all.

Default Knife Edge issue

I tried the Knife Edge and all seemed to go well during the cutover, however, I could not start the Blackberry Dispatcher service. I was running BES from the current production box, had setup SQL and migrated the DB. I then pointed BES to the newly built host and SQL DB and everything seemed fine. But when I checked services the BB Dispatcher wasn't running. I tried to start it manually, but it failed. Event ID of 7024. Researching this now...

Are you trying to have both the old and new server online at the same time?
If so, you'll need different SRPs for each server.
RIM will lockout the SRP if you try to use it on more than one machine simultaneously.

Default Knife Edge problems

Tried the knife-edge again over the weekend. No luck. I used the Blackberry guide for knife edge cutovers as well as a good article on the process posted by Gary Cutri.

I believe the problem I am having is either that I am trying to jump from MSDE to SQL 2005 in the cutover, or that I don't have the Full Version of 4.14, which is the release we are running. It appears that the only way to get a full version is the BES software is to have a T-Support. Can someone confirm that? Our T Support contract has expired and I hate to renew just for a full download of BES, but maybe I have no other choice.

TIA
