Default BES' TestMailbox utility is lying?

Please Login to Remove!

All this while I thought that using the test mailbox utility of BES found in this path: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility\IEMStest.exe

Checks thoroughly if indeed the BES service account has the proper rights to the mailbox store (send as, receive as, administer information store)

I tested the mailbox and I got a success result:

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Utility - IEMSTest.exe (IExchangeManageStore), Version 1.0
Copyright (c) Research In Motion, Ltd. 1999. All rights reserved.
Opening Default Message Store Mailbox - BESadmin.
Opening message store for DOE John using
/o=CompanyName/ou=SiteName1/cn=RECIPIENTS/cn=JDOE /O=CompanyName/OU=SiteName2/cn=Configurati
on/cn=Servers/cn=ExchangeServer/cn=Microsoft Private MDB.
DOE John's Mailbox opened successfully.
Root Folder opened successfully.
Folder created successfully.
Test folder deleted successfully.
Test completed successfully for DOE John

NOTE: Notice there are 2 different sitenames indicated in the mailbox container path- it seems to be a legacydn since the mailbox of this user got moved from one exchange server to another within our exchange forest (this user transfered from one office site to another)..but this should not affect anything since we have several working BB users with the same situation.

But in the Messaging Agent (MAGT) logs while trying OTA, I see these entries for the user:

[40405] (09/15 07:01:48.375):{0x1E00} {jdoe@domain.com} MAPIMailbox::OpenIPMSubtree - OpenEntry (0x8004010f) failed
[20265] (09/15 07:01:48.657):{0x1E00} {JDOE} MAPIMailbox::GetSearchRootFolder - CreateFolder(1) (0x80070005) failed
[20265] (09/15 07:01:48.657):{0x1E00} {JDOE} MAPIMailbox::~MAPIMailbox - DeleteAllDeviceSearches (0x00000000) failed

In the handheld, it just says "activating [email address]...." for an hour or two...then after that..

"Server is not Responding. Please contact your system administrator"

Now what I did is I went to Exchange System Manager and peeked at the permissions of besadmin in the information store- nothing! its not even in the security tab..

weird!

I just added besadmin delegated proper permissions as stated by RIM...and voila! it activated successfully..

it's sad the BES IEMSTest utility cant be trusted..LOlz

IEMSTest doesn't test the Send As functionality you add through ADUC.
