Default Error running BES 5.0 upgrade?

Please Login to Remove!

Am in the process of upgrading from 4.0 SP7 to 5.0, have run all the prep work etc, is a single BES server, SQL is on a proper remote SQL box and the Exchange is 2007.

Am getting an error when running the BES install/upgrade on the first part when it attempts to update the database, it tries then errors and on the remote SQL server I am seeing this error

"The transaction log for database 'BESMgmt' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases"

have searched but not found a solution for this, have tried backing up etc and the database is set on "simple" mode for recovery as its supposed to be.

Anyone got any ideas or had this problem?

this might be that the log file does not have autogrowth enabled on it.
which version of sql server are you using? do you have a dba managing your sql environment that can assist you with this?

thanks, I did check that and set both on autogrowth, we have no DBAdmins at my place as we only have SQL for BES and one other app which handles itself etc

This is a typlical error seen with MSDE to full SQL DB Migrations as MSDE as it set to a 25MB limit. All you need to do is have the recovery model set to simple and put a larger limit on the transaction log and you will be fine. If the recovery mode is full then you can see 100's of MB if not GB's of transaction logging.

thanks, thing is I already previously moved the BES from one box to another a couple of months back and it was fine going from MSDE to full SQL has been on it happily until trying the upgrade to 5.0, the recovery model is set to simple (checked) and I set the growth larger and also tried unrestricted growth and it still errors with the same 9002 SQL error

Have you tried running the createdb.exe on the SQL sever and modified the besmgmt.cfg file to upgrade, then performing the application upgrade ?

I tend to find that in these situations upgrading the DB first then doing the app upgrade works best from a 4.0 environment.

I found a solution on the blackberry KB in the end searching on the 9002 error it meant doing some bits on the SQL server in sequence with the bes services stopped, after that it went through ok.

This is the article that resolved my issue View Document 0 175991257
