Default help finish knife edge migration - 10-22-2009, 05:23 PM

I completed aknife edge migration yesterday. When I shut down the services on the old server adn brough up the services on the new server, all services started and remaind running, however, Blackberries stopped getting or sending messages. I did follow the process to create a blank database first, then restored a current copy of the live databse over the clean besmgmt databse. The Blackberry server name is the same as on the old server (although the servername is different). The old server had sql 2000 msde and the new one has full SQL 2008. I don't think that's a probelm because the database and all services start fine. I'm able to open and look at tables in the database. After about an hour of no messages on Blackberries. I turned off the services on the new server and restarted the services on the old server. The blackberries started working again.

I saw I haven't had any replies on this and my original posting may be a bit ambiguous. I want to migrate my Blackberry server onto new server ahrdware and SQL version. I went trhoguh all the steps and everything appeared to succeed except at the end I wasn't getting incoming or outgoing messages. FOr now I've reverted back to my old server. any thoughts on how to figure out what's wrong with my new server would be appreciated

I suspect that you'd have better luck if this was in the BES Admin section of the forum. Perhaps a mod can move it for you.

Have you checked port 3101? Are you able to telnet RIM Infrastructure from the new BES machine through the port 3101? What is server status (Running, Unknown, ..etc) and what is the SRP status on the new machine (Connected, Disconnected)?

Note: RIM doesn't recommend installing BES with SQL 2008 because of compatibility issues.

When I bring up the new server the SRP status reads 'connected" I am also able to use the SRP test connection and the test reports succesfull. What process should I use to verify Telnet connectivity?

It could be a SQL incompatibility, although I've read posts from others who are using it and the tables and database appears to be ok. I looked up the SRP url and did a telnet. I used telnet srp.na.blackberry.net 3101 When I did so my cmd window just goes blank. There's no indication of success or failure. Ithink this means I connected
