Default SharePoint on Blackberry - 11-03-2009, 11:57 AM

Hello all

Does anyone out there access a Sharepoint site from the Smartphones? if so, does the website display in a wokable fashion?

Also, I use ISA with Sharepoint and authentication is forms-based, do the Smartphones have a problem with this?

Tom

Thanks guys
OK, I am writing my design,build,to-do document at the moment as well as building production environment (preliminary at any rate) and I want to include a section on what expectations there are for Sharepoint integration with BES.

I get the impression that people are using third party products like Silverdust to provide this integration, does that mean that the default BES features do not provide a useful interface\functionality with SharePoint.

BES 5.0, up to 1000 users, all roles on same VM

Hey millardus,

BES itself does not provide anything special with SharePoint. It just gives you access to the mobile version of SharePoint

Here is what it looks like:
WSS Demo

so the way to get to the mobile version is to just add a /m at the end of the address. The issue with this is that you don't get access to a lot of the features in sharepoint and it is view only for a lot of things.

If you would like a more dynamic and user friendly approach, I would go with a 3rd party tool. Tho my company does make one such tool.

It all depends on how you use SharePoint. If you use it to do mostly viewing of list contents then the /m approach is all you really need. If you want to do things like check in/check out then you will need a third party app like SilverDust.

OK, thanks Ben. I shall discuss with my colleagues tomorrow when I update on BES progress and we can ratify what the userbase expects\wants as far as Sharepoint functionality is concerned. I may then call upon you. I am UK based btw.
