Default Do you deploy firmware using BPS? - 11-03-2009, 05:08 PM

Hi all.

I'm a newbie Admin here. I'm running BPS 4.1.4.17 with about 20 users.

How would I go about deploying new firmware (in this case a blackberry Bold) wirelessly to the device? I know I can detach the user from the BPS and apply the firmware that way, or adjust the IT policy to allow RIM enterprise updates, but my boss runs a tight ship and doesn't to do it that way.

Also, what are the risks of deploying firmware this way? Is it possible to brick phones using this technique?

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but I searched the forums and found nothing.

In addition to what knottyrope has indicated, there's also no way to wirelessly deploy an OS to a handheld directly from BES.

With BES, you request the wireless update on behalf of the user, and the update is delivered wirelessly to the device from the carrier.

Search this forum for OTASL for more detailed info on this process.
