Default BAckup Software for BES 4.0 - 12-06-2005, 11:08 AM

I am a BB novice.
We have multiple BES 4.0 servers for Exchange. What is the best software to use to backup the BES and the SQl database? What needs to be backup up? Is there a best practices manual for the backup of a BES server?

Thanks for anyones help or suggestions.

If your user base does not change and is relatively static, you can back up the BES database by doing an export and saving the flat file.

This way, if you have a failure and have to restore, you simply build a new box out and install the latest greatest BES version, and do an import of the user data/database. At least that's one of my thoughts about it. I also backup my SQL database (which is on a different server) and use the Veritas SQL agent for that.

I would try the Maintenance Guide for RIM's suggestions:

A regular FULL backup of the database is sufficient. RIM does provide a BlackBerryDBBackup and BlackBerryDBRestore util with the software.

We have a backup running every night of certain key database directories from every server and also, the databases are always replicating to our bes servers in dr site.

In the event of a failure, the only time consuming part is having to reload the OS on the server and the time it takes to copy back all the files necessary to get it up and running.
