Default Weird problem with attachments on *some* Blackberries - 12-06-2005, 11:29 AM

Using BES 3.6 we have around 10 Blackberries - the problem we have is with attachments. What happens is the Blackberry will recognise there is an attachment, when I then open the attachment it gives me a list (table of contents or full content), but when I select either of these it displays a clock next to the item I have selected but does nothing else. Strangely enough, other Blackberries on the same server work fine with attachments. I have rebooted the server, enabled/disabled MDS, done the diag test on the attachment service (which is installed on the same server as the BES) to no avail. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

Cheers

MDS has nothing to do with the Attachment Viewing ability. Have you tried to reset the BlackBerry?

Also check whether the following KB applies to these specific users:

The way to test this is to get two BlackBerry handhelds - one that is displaying attachments correctly and one that isn't. Forward the E-mail message with the attachment that the BlackBerry handheld will not display to the BlackBerry that is displaying attachments and forward the E-mail message with the attachment that the BlackBerry handheld will display to the BlackBerry handheld that is not displaying attachments. I believe you will find that the fault follows the attachment rather than the BlackBerry handheld.

A common issue with attachments occurs with PDF attachments - if the PDF is created by an Adobe product it works OK but PDFs created by third party products commonly fail. The Attachment service converts the attachment to a proprietary BB format and if it can't convert the attachment correctly then you will not be able to display that part of the attachment.

If this is a major issue to you then you may have to upgrade to the BES 4.0 solution as it has a more advanced Attachment service engine than BES 3.6.

Excellent! That worked like a charm, I forgot since our company has gone through a merger some of the old email addresses work in a strange way, hence the sudden failure of some of the previously configured Blackberries.

Thanks all for your help.
