Default Exporting IT Policy

Please Login to Remove!

I originally posted this on the General Forum, but i think ill get a better chance of getting a reply in here.

Im trying to find a way to export the IT Policy on a BES.
Does anyone know how this can be done?

Or if i can set another profile become default and remove the original default policy

(edit: added later)

Ive had a pretty solid dig at it. It seems all the settings are stored in the database (on my server called ITpolicy2) as desktopblob and handheldblob, both as image files (i assume its stored as this as you can store far more characters in a field this way). Ive updated the second profile using basic SQL stuff and now they are identical. However they arent the same when viewing via the BES GUI. Anyone else had a look at this?

Cheers
Andrew

Based on my own numerous inquiries, there is no "stock" way to export or import the IT policy. There may be some way to export or extract the IT policy from the database, but I haven't heard of it.

Maybe this will be a feature in 4.1!

I'm using 3.6.2, but this should apply to you...
In chapter 8 of the admin guide, it goes over how to export/import SQL scripts for IT policies

If you are simply wanting to export the SQL:

bcp besmgmt..itpolicy out c:\itpolicy -c -T
bcp besmgmt..itpolicy2 out c:\itpolicy2 -c -T
bcp besmgmt..itpolicytemplate out c:\itpolicy3 -c -T
bcp besmgmt..itpolicytemplate2 out c:\itpolicy4 -c -T

If you are wanting to export the policy to a policy.bin file, or something that can be loaded locally from the Desktop (e.g. - to circumvent IT Policy, to enable BT policies to the current policy.bin floating around, etc.), then its not possible.

How about "exporting" the IT Policy to something easily readable like CSV, for instance? I'd like something like that for version tracking and auditing. I'm on BES 4.0.3 for Domino with MSDE database.

SQL scripts with information:

4.0 Installation CD/Package:
\Database\DBInstallScripts\SQLServer\4.0\ITPolicyT emplate.sql

4.1 Installation CD/Package:
\Database\DBInstallScripts\SQLServer\4.1\ITPolicyT emplate.sql

Also, on the 4.0 service packs (full installation or upgrade only), they have the following file, which could be used as a tab-separated values file:

\Database\DBInstallScripts\ITPolicyTemplate.txt

Question

Hi,
This is exactly what I'm after as well....
I'm wanting to be able to export the IT Policies so they are documented. During trial, we just screenshotted the IT Policies screens...

But I'm hoping to get something a bit more professional looking.

I've found I can use Excel's "Get External Data" query engine to access the BESMgmt database.

But my next question is, which table and columns do I need to query to get my info out? I opened the ITPolicyTemplate2 table that is referenced by ITPolicyTemplate.sql but it seems to only contains min/max values, names, descriptions, etc of the IT Policy options - not the values I've selected for our enterprise.

Any help greatly appreciated. (Especially if it can be linked/grouped by policy section).

Cheers.

edit: forgot to add... we are using BES4.1

As far as I know- there is no way as the policies are converted to binaries in the "ITPolicy2" table under the columns "HandheldBlob" and "DesktopBlob"...

"ITPolicyTemplate2" table just store the details, e.g. max/min values - it is more for the program's internal usage, I believe...
