Default Can service packs be uninstalled and rolled back?

Please Login to Remove!

I am thinking about updating BES 4.0 SP 1 to SP3 hotfix 2. Is it possible to uninstall / rollback service pack installs if I later find it problematic?

Thanks!

I am in need of the same info. I recently installed service pack 3 and attempting to install hot fix 1. Since the originall Bes 4.0 is a download it does not like the MSI file. I would like to move forward if someone can help me but if all fails can service pack 3 be removed?

Well I found the solution to my issue. You have to use the MSI file from the service pack and not the original server install.

I would still like to know if service packs can be rollback though. Anyone have an answer to this one?

according to an email received from RIM this is the way to rollback a servicepack (i have asked them how to rollback from SP3 to SP2):

Quote:
In the scenario where a role back to sp2 was required, the current sp3 nbes.exe and nbes.pdb would need to be replaced with the nbes.exe and nbes.pdb from either sp2 or sp2hf2. If a upgraded was to be performed to sp3hf2 or sp4, the sp2hf2 .exe and .pdb would just need to be replaced with the original sp3 .exe and .pdb. Prior to replacing these file both the BES and Domino servers would need to be shut down.

Two BES server running different versions (e.g BES4.0 SP3 hf1 and BES4.0 SP2) can use the same BESMgmt database. When applying sp or hf to these servers it would be best to stop the other BES server connect to the database. During upgrades schema changes may be made to the BESMgmt. If another BES server is connected to the database it is possible that it may lock a portion of the database and prevent the schema changes from taking effect. If the one of the BES server was connect and running when the other BES server was upgraded, stopping either of the server and running the sp or hf again would ensure the schema changes were made.

I am on Groupwise aswell.
The best way I have found on the rare occassion I have had to do this is to remove the BES install entirely via Add/Remove Programs. Then Re-Install base Install and then till required level. We use Full SQL so I am not sure on the MSDE if it's removed aswell if you're using that. May want to do a DB backup just in case a Restore is required.

I had the same problem when I installed SP4. The problem was fixed by applying Hot Fix 1 for SP4. I created a thread when I had the problem called 'Attachment problem since SP4 upgrade'.

Nope, there is no uninstall for any BES (any Flavour). The only official way is to Add/Remove and install BES then the Service Pack/Hot Fix or your choice.

PS. Never us the MSI installer from a full install! Only the Setup.exe.

If rolling back, do you need to restore the SQL database, or can you run the old version against an updated database?
