Default BES 4.0/Domino 5 - Can't Send Mail Outside of Internal Network

Please Login to Remove!

First off...I am a total noob at working with BES in a Domino environment, so any info would be extremely helpful (I have searched all over the forums and none of the suggested solutions to others with similar problems have worked). We have Domino 5.0.10 installed on an AS/400. It works perfectly fine...and can send mail to external addresses fine. We installed BES 4 on a separate Windows 2003 machine...and then ran through the official RIM setup guide. Blackberry Handheld Email can be recieved from external email addresses, sent and recieved to any of the internal Notes addresses...but cannot be sent to an address outside of the the local notes domain.

Another thread said that I should configure the connection document for the smtp(not sure exactly what to do here, but the changes I tried to make did not work) and to edit the configuration document mime settings(I have no idea what settings under the mime tab could be changed in here to make it work). All of the other settings as far as the server document, firewall, BES setup are correctly configured. If anyone knows what I could change to allow mail to be sent out, I would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I am a newbie BES admin, too. I had a similar problem when I first setup our trial BES server at our datacenter. We are using R6.53 so this may not apply to your situation, but here is what I did.

Added a new configuration document for our BES under "Configuration" tab > "Messaging" > "Configurations"
In this configuration document, I enabled "SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain". Then set "Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain" to our main Notes server.

We installed BES in a separate segment than our Notes server, so I had to open port 25 for it to work.
