Cool BES 5.0 MDS not listening on 8080

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

Can someone please help me.

After trawling through the misery of upgrading from 4.1 top 5.0 and then moving to new hardware I thought I was finally there. However users are reporting that they cannot browse the internet through their blackberries.

When I run a netstat -na I do not see it listening on port 8080 at all.

Can someone help please?

Thanks

Simon

Always starts by checking:

(1) Is the MDS-CS service started?
(2) Can you browse to http://localhost:8080
(3) Is there any proxy settings? If yes, configure the Internet Explorer on the BES (or the computer where the remote MDS-CS is running) with that proxy and see if you can browse the web sites.
(4) What's the error on the BlackBerry when accessing a site?

You should have enough information to continue troubleshoot.

Hi there.

Thanks for replying.

1. Yes, the service is started
2. No I cannot browse to localhost:8080, but i can browse to]localhost:8443 though it only serves a page of square characters in the top left corner
3. No proxy
4. Cannot access the webpage I think

thanks again

You must troubleshoot until it works for http://localhost:8080 (this is the MDS-CS Status page). Start looking at the MDAT logs.

When you say mdat logs, do you mean the ones under logs\webserver?

What is strange under there is it hasn't logged anything since I built the server 2 weeks ago.

The initial log shows it firing up and listening on 8080.

I have done netstat -an and nothing else is using 8080. I can see 8443 being used.

Should I just go into add/remove programs and run a repair?

Thanks again for your help.

I have just restarted the services and no new mdat log is created. in the initialisation log i get:

invalid ImagePath -rbes argument

Now this is under the registry mds service start parameters right? so is there something incorrect in there?

The reg value looks like this

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\MDS\bin\bmds.exe" -s jvmpath="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_15\bin\client\jvm.dll" -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -Xss128K -Xmx768M -Xms128M classpathdir="C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\MDS\classpath\\" wrkdir="C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\MDS\Servers\Instance\\" webserverdir="C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\MDS\webserver\\" -rbes ""

You are missing the MDS Instance name under:

-rbes ""

It should looks something like...

-rbes "BES_MDS-CS_1"

Default Great News

Great help from this forum.

I can now see the mds webpage!

however users are reporting http error 403 forbidden - you are not authorised to access this web page?

Is this a policy setting, I am using the default IT policy in BES 5.0

You can try the same URL the user browsed to using the BlackBerry Browser on the Internet Explorer on the BES (or the computer where the MDS-CS is running) to see if it produced the same HTTP error 403. Usually 403 is access denied by the web server you are sending the HTTP request to.

Link: Let me google that for you
