Hey all!
I have BES Express 5.0.1.13 running MSDE on a workstation and I need to move it to a server-class machine.

I found KB12304, but after reading the forums, i realized it will cost me money for the migration kit.

I have downloaded the BESX again and it actually gave me different SRP ID and Key.

If I were to backup the existing db (KB03112), install new server with new SRP into same domain but create new db, then restore db to new server, then move users from old to new server, would I encounter any issues?

If this won't work, what can I do, as I belive knife-edge only works for BES 4 and lower?

I should install SQL 2005 MSDE on the new server first, then restore the back up db from the old server, the install BES on new server?

Yes and do the DB move while logged in a BESAdmin on SQL express.

Wouldnt ther be a problem with the same db being on two different servers in the same blackberry domain at same time? Would they both try to sync with all the blackberrys at the same time? Or woulkd i have to shut down the first one once the second one goes live?

yes you have to stop services on the old one before starting up the new one.

your SRP can be locked out if you dont.
