Question 9700 and BES. Item deletion issue.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Everyone,
I apologize if this is a stupid issue or if the answer is already on the forums. I did a search, but I'm finding it difficult to narrow my question into just a few words for searching.

I am a VERY new BES Admin. We have a small company where 6 users needed to have access to their Exchange mailboxes via their Blackberries, so we set up a server. The Exchange/Blackberry server is running on a Windows 2003 box with Exchange 2003. The Blackberry Manager version is 4.1.4.17

The president recently got a Blackberry 9700 and I set him up on the system. However, he says that when he deletes a mail item on his Blackberry, it does not get deleted on the Exchange server. This works for my other users using other Blackberry devices.

Any thoughts as to what is going wrong? I'm new at this and therefore stumped as to what to do.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Check the reconciliation settings on his device.
Message > Options > Email Reconciliation
For message service = Desktop, check that the following is properly set:
Delete On: Handheld & Mailbox (or Prompt)
Wireless Reconcile: On

ok. Thanks! I'll check that as soon as he's out of his meeting. He doesn't use the Desktop manager for his device. Do I need to install the manager to get access to the "Delete on" and "wireless reconcile" options....or have I misunderstood the latter part of your reply completely? :|

You don't need Desktop Manager at all.
Everything I mentioned is done from the device itself.

Just as an FYI, the setting that penquin mentions above is a default setting on the device, and there is no way to change it except from the device (i.e., can't set it from the BES via IT Policy or anything).

And welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of BES admins.

You are AWESOME. This fixed the issue. The 'delete on' field was set to handheld only. Thank you very much for your help. I'm sure you'll see me crying for help again sometime soon as I plan on upgrading my Exchange server to 2010 and the newest BES software.
