I have a new BES Version: 5.0.1.13 installed on my Windows 2003 SP2 server. It is running 19 users successfully. However it is installed on SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Evaluation Edition which will expire soon. I know I can "down grade" (switch editions) to SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Services pretty easily.

Is that an appropriate version of SQL Server for BES?

Also, in our previous BES 4.1.4 (professional) we had to install user licenses (CALs) for each user. This new version does not require them? Is that correct? We had a consultant assist with install and they claim the CALs are no longer needed per Blackberry?! We are running the 19 users with no issues, but it has only been 2 weeks.

There are two version of BES and you are probably using BES Express which is free.

In the compatibility matrix, you can see which SQL version are compatible and which ones are recommended:

If you need to move from one SQL version to the other, make a backup of the DB, install the new SQL version and do a restore, then attach to the new DB.
