Default Ideal BES setup for 2 offices?

Please Login to Remove!

We are headquartered in the US and our current Exchange and BES server reside on the same local LAN. We have employees all over the world and also a branch office in London. We are setting up an Exchange PostOffice in London so that their mail is local to them rather than connecting back to the US. We are dealing with 1 domain.

What is the ideal BES setup if we want to deploy BlackBerrys in Europe? A second BES in London connected to the local Exchange server there? We have a dedicated VPN tunnel between offices, 100 ms latency however. I assume we need the second BES since it is more than 35ms apart?

As for the database, should I even attempt to use the same SQL database in the US, or setup a second database to be local in London?

Sounds like you have almost the exact same setup as we do.

2 locations: 1 US 1 UK
AD: 2 exchange servers: 1 Us 1 UK

VPN between the two.

As long as you have little to no lag between your exchange servers you only need 1 BES.

We have a BES in the UK and have users there and here on it. GPRS and CDMA and it works fine. You just have to give permission to the bes on both exchange servers.

Cingular told me that all the info goes through Canada anyway since that is where RIM is located.

I thought exchange and bes needed to be within 35 ms of each other? We have 100 ms between US and UK.

My suggestion would be to setup a london user and just see how it goes. I think you will not see any problems.

We were worried at first and I had pushed for our own BES in the US. However b/c of funds etc the top brass would not go for it.

And we are currently working fine now.
