Currently we are on BES 4 and I'm starting to move to BES 5. I'm getting up to speed on Blackberry because I've had the BES admin job thrust upon me.

Anyway, I've done some searching and read through the install guide but can't find an answer to my question.

We are currently using a product called Neverfail which gives us High Availability. I'm deciding if I want to keep it or use RIM's. With Neverfail the secondary server is basically a mirror of the primary server. They have the same name and both servers have the same IP address, but the neverfail product pretty much puts the second interface to sleep. I have a backup interface on each server so I can RDP to it with an IP if I have to manage it. I do just need to have a single hole punched through the firewall to communicate to RIM.

I can't find how exactly RIM's HA works. Does each server have it's own IP address that can talk to RIM? If so, I will have to punch a 2nd hole through the firewall for the secondary/backup server? (That's not a big deal to me.)

Anybody use Neverfail on v4 then move to RIM's? Does it work better, the same, worse?

Yes, the second server will also need an outbound TCP connection to RIM's network on port 3101.

Neverfail is kick-ass software. If you already have it, then I would continue to use it over BES 5's native HA solution. That's just my personal opinion.
