Default Can not start - Blackberry Administration Service

Please Login to Remove!

Hello there, sorry in advance for the long-ish post. This is my first post on the BlackBerry Forums!

I would like to first say hello, my name is Kyle and I'm a IT Technician for a smaller IT Solutions company: Leppert Business Systems. We provide various IT & Print Services/Support to the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario.

So hello. Now down to business:

Our company is deploying Blackberry 9700's to all our Technicians - about 10 devices total. Out of interest and the allure of its useful features we have decided to use BES (Express) for greater control over our company's devices.

I am running BES in an SBS 2003 environment (Exchange, AD, DHCP Server, DNS Server, etc - all the normal SBS type roles.)

I just installed the latest version of BES Express last week and the installation went great. I was about to get everything setup and get into the Administration Service Page to start defining all of my desired settings.

This week when I came in I was unable to launch the BlackBerry Administration Service from the Start Menu. It just said "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I did some digging and found that the service had stopped. Also discovered errors in the Event Logs.

I Google'd the problem and found a useful blog describing the exact problem I was having:

(please copy/paste it wont let me hot-link due to my low post-count.)
sentle.blogspot.com/2009/08/cant-access-blackberry-enterprise.html

I went threw the troubleshooting steps on that blog to try and get it back up and running. This was unsuccessful, I've been unable to find a whole lot more on this problem.

Has anyone run into this problem? Is this a known problem?

Thanks in advance, any help is great!

Has no one ever run into this problem before?

What is your BES set up? More information please. The link seems to indicate a brower issue. Have you tried another one?

Did you even read my post? It seems to be a Java problem, but I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps on that link. Its not a browser issue as its the Administration service that wont even start.

I did read your post. As a matter of fact, I read it twice before I replied and asked for more information. Since you do not believe my request for the information posted was relevent, I won't bother you further.

Good luck in your search.

I was not trying to offend you, its just a more complicated issue than the web browser I'm using as its the service that wont start. The application server depends on that service. If its not started nothing will work.

Default Uninstall recent windows updates

I had this same issue, I had to uninstall the recent windows security updates, and disable automatic windows update.
**reboot**, check to make sure all the services are automatic/manual and started

I don't like to do this, but RIM doesnt play well with others.

Funny thing is, this happened after i moved my server and gave it a new public IP so it was 2 hours before I figured it out. I just remembered seeing it installing updates before the move.

I admit Im not the most qualified IT pro, but this is what worked for me.
Who really wants a RIM certificate anyways

Server 2008 R2, BES 5, a bazillion BB models

P.S. My users raise hell when they cant use thier BB. Almost as if thier computers couldn't access thier email...

What version of Java are you running? I currently have this issue, the BAS-AS will start and then shut down after about 5 minutes. And the logs aren't helpful. When we called RIM, they just said they have a few open tickets on the issue, but there is no KB yet, we should just reinstall.

I just upgraded to BES 5.0.2 and and my primary users told me they could no longer manage users in BES Admin. They were logging into icons on the desktop via remote desktop that now seem tainted. Our work around is to create a trusted entry for the site in IE and connect from our desktops.
