Default Communicate with the BES through Desktop Manager

Please Login to Remove!

I have heard a rumor that you can use the Desktop Manager software to communicate with BES server. This would be ideal for some offices and training rooms that I have where there is no cellular signal.

Does anyone have any advice on how this works? I have tried searching to no avail (not really sure what to search on).

Any advice would be appreciated.

yes. It will simply relay messages. Can't send or anything. Just for catching up when there is no signal.

Are there special settings required on the BlackBerry, the desktop manager software or the BES?

Which version of BES are you using? And which version of BDM?

Sorry, I guess that would help.

BES = 4.0.1.8
BDM = 4.0.0.30

Because BES 4.0 will sync (mostly) everything wirelessly, on your device you have to take off wireless syncing. On your device under messages, click options and take off wireless synchronization. Then on the BDM go to Intellysync, configure PIM and make sure there set to wired synchronization.

Interesting ...

I just recently tried using the BDM bypass, so I can't compare to the older version of BDM. Currently running BDM 4.1.0.9 and BES 4.0.3.14.

However, once I'm connected via BDM, (I even turned off wireless), I can do everything via the BDM. No restrictions that I've noticed so far.

The only difficulty I had was our bes is named [email address]l which was not a valid FQDN within our dns. I hadd to add a user defined router. [email address] to get it to communicate with the bes correctly.

I have connected both carrier and the wifi blackberry through the BDM to the bes.
