Default In-Place upgrde from 4.1.6.26 to 5.02 on Windows 2003

Please Login to Remove!

Current environment - Excahnge 5.5 (NT4), BES 4.1.6.26(W2K3)
Plans: move to Exchange 2003 SP1 thenmove BES on the same box (nto a new one) in place from 4.1.6.26 to 5.0.2. I'm not sure if currentbes is MSDE SQL or SQL Express but regardless in-place upgrade to 5.02 BES on same box.
Then eventually move to Exchange 2007 on a 64 bit Server.

1. Move to Excahnge 2003 SP1
2. Migrate inplace BES 4.1.6.26 to BES 5.02
3. Move to Exchange 2003 SP3
4. Move to Exchange 2007 Sp1

What is the prope upgrade path and processes....what to watch out for, least amount of inpact to Users and handhelds. Device software 4.3 to 5.0.

Glenn.

Best to upgrade as many devices to OS 5 if possible for new features of BES.
4.3 is not a good OS for BES 5 have seen quite a few issues with it.

Have a good backup plan, RIM reccomends having a new database when possible for going with BES 5.0.

great suggestions...but I would like to know if I can do an in place upgrade on the server itself from 4.1.6.26 to 5.0.2 and what do I need to do with SQL if any? will the SQL version be upgraded at the same time to the 5.0.2 version of MSDE or is it now SQL express?

Yes you can do it, but it is not a best practice.

I have not messed with MSDE in a while, sorry.

OK thanks, I will convince the client to go with a VM then and put in a new instance of BES 5.02 and use the transporter tool.
