Default Picking up Messages from a Server/Domain migration

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everyone,

I'm a bit stumped with this one, let me attempt to explain. Have a client running Exchange 2003/BES under abc.org ... they wished to both migrate to to Exchange 2007/BES *and* use a new primary Domain, xyz.com. I created the necessary Exchange 2007 accounts, exported their Outlook data (from abc.org) on the workstations to a .pst ... built new Outlook profiles on the workstations based on the new xyz.com Domain, then imported their .pst data so that it could upload to the new Exchange 2007 server. No problems at all thus far. Next we killed and reactivated each BB device against the new server, still no issues. Contacts, calendar, notes - all of the data which was imported from the old server - all synched fine with the devices ... *except* mail. None of the mail imported from the older server shows up on the devices, even though it's present within the users' Exchange Inbox. Even with the devices set to retain mail "forever", nada. The only mail the users are seeing is from the time of activation on the new server forward. Seems odd to me given that calendar, contacts, notes - all imported data - pushed out to the user devices without issue.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue for me?

Thank you!

This is most likely "normal" behaviour.
Dependent of the BES server version, there is a default setting of X days and N mails a blackberry will get from the mailbox if the user never was Activated.
For the BES 4 version, this is something like 3 Days or 200 Mails. you can adujst the setting, but not in a range larger about 1000 mails or 10 Days.

see here:
KB11632-How to increase the number of email messages sent to a BlackBerry smartphone during the enterprise activation process

Now, when you clone a Mailbox to a pst, and import this in the new exchange store, you also copy BES related information which is contained in the users mailbox.
Therefore even if you kill the device, it will not be seen as new.

you should have deleted the user when it was still connected to the server using the option to remove all Blackberry related information from the users mailbox.
But even then not all your mails would have reappeared.

Also, the calendar is only synced 1 month back.
This can be overcome by unchecking the wireless calendar sync, then, syncing the calendar using usb. Afterwards turn on wireless sync for the calendar again.

Thanks for the information, nobody7290. One note: This wasn't an Exchange clone of the users' inboxes, rather an export of their cached Outlook data (.ost) out to a .pst file ... then when the new Outlook profile running against the new Exchange server was configured, an import of that user's data back into Outlook ... then allowed several hours for it to upload to Exchange. Would that make a difference?

Thanks,

I dont know, if the ost file contains the blackberry information (I even dont now for sure if the pst file contains it), its only a guess based on your experience.
if you still have one of those ost files, import them again in a new empty test-mailbox, and then, use MFCMAPI to look in the mailbox.
