OK couple of questions for all you people....

I'm looking at getting our enviroment up to Exchange 2010, currently at exchange 2007. Does anyone know if I can take a Win2k3 64bit Exchange 2007 box and upgrade it to 2008r2? And then run the standard upgrade to Exchange 2010?

If not, I can build a new 2008r2 box with Exchange 2010 on it and perform the steps in KB22601-How to migrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 from Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 0 813558503

Now, once the BESAdmin mailbox is moved....or any of our bes users mailboxes are moved to the Exchange 2010 box will a handheld activation be required. I'm guessing for a little while I will be running a mixed exchange 2007 and 2010 enviroment until all mailboxes are transitioned.

Why are you even entertaining the possibility of option 1? There's no reason a handheld should require re-activating based on the exchange server it's on, as long as it remains in the same Exchange Organization.

Why option 1? If it can be done, it seems like the easier/less expensive route to take. Since another box for 2008r2 doesn't have to be purchased and built. Perhaps I am way off on that, feel free to fill me in. I'm not 100% sure on whats involved in running a 2007-2010 exchange mixed enviroment

Less expensive... well maybe if you're only talking about hardware. Easier? No. Anyone who has done any upgrading in their time will tell you not to do an inplace upgrade of an OS or Exchange.

K, so this might not be the correct thread then for this question. But when I install exchange 2010 (with all the roles) it will take over those "roles" from the exchange 2007 box? And I'd have to create a routing connector manually on the exchange box until I decommision the 07 exchange machine?

Exchange is definately setup to work in a hybrid environment, and the install will actually do a lot of the integration for you. I think even the routing connector was set up when I did it at home (haven't tried it at work yet). But even when you have moved everything over, just power off the other exchange box and see if your new one is ok - don't start uninstalling anything until it's passed that test.
