I'm being asked to find old,unused accounts on our BES 5.0.1 environment (on Exchange) in order to ensure licenses are used efficiently. Assuming I don't always get told when someone leaves the company, how can I find this information. I'm hoping for a vbscript or SQL query that will give me a list of "highly-likely they've left" users. I can then confirm on Active Directory. We have over 1200 users, some of whom are on maternity leave etc...

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

In your Advanced search for users, you can perform a search on Email Criteria for "Last Contact Date".

Keep in mind that last contact date may also be showing people who have issues with their handhelds and can't connect to BES. We have a small user group so it's easy to keep track of who's left, but it helps me identify problems.

i do monthly cleanups, anyone who hasnt contacted our server in 30 days gets booted. if they just had their device off i dont see it as that big of a deal to readd and activate them again. plus they r wasting a cal not using the device

After 30 days they get booted here as well.

We were doing that here (removing after 45 days of no contact actually), but stopped as this is now a service deliverable that internal customers pay for. So they stay on until they are termed (we go by an HR report AND a weekly check of accounts) or the customer requests them removed. We provide them a mothly detailed reportt of what is on the BES for their users. Since they are charged per device on the BES, we see requests for removal pretty quickly when a device isn't being used. Usually much more frequently than our old 45 days policy.

We do that too, but sit at a 90 day. Technically we aren't supposed to, but as admin, I feel if they haven't talked to the server in 45+ days..... then do they really even want thier BB that bad. We even had a few users that were "forced" to get a device, the minute they got it, put it in a drawer and never used it.... to me that's a waste of time and money. No sence working on someone that doesn't need to be worked on.
