Default Controlling the prompting for credentials

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

I have a user who is complaining that he is being constantly prompted for AD credentials every time he surfs the web using the BB Browser and the MDS.

Normally I would tell them to suck it up and just enter their credentials however this guy is a board director and making lots of noise.

So after searching the web for ages I have come across an post that implies that the Authenication Timeout setting (on the HTTP tab of MDS Connection Service) actually controls how long the BES remembers the credentials before prompting again, not how long before it gives up trying to authenicate.

Is this right?

If so why is it that although I have it set to 1200000 milliseconds it prompts after 6 mins?

Thanks for you help

Is that surfing the intranet or the internet? For the internet, you should not be prompted for your credentials, if you have the correct setup (depends on if you have a proxy or not).

Sorry freakinvibe, I should have been a bit clearer in my first post.

All our Blackberries go through the MDS Connection Service for Internet access and we are using WebSense as a proxy server so that we can filter which web pages they are allowed to view on their Blackberries.
So my users should be prompted for AD credentials at least once a day so that WebSense can authenicate them and filter their web traffic accordingly.

Ah, ok. The "Authenication Timeout" setting you are refering to is only for web sites using authentication (for example intranet sites). If your proxy needs authentication, this setting has no influence.

I don't know if there is a "Proxy Authentication timeout" setting.

All sorted now guys,

After talking to a helpful person at RIM they confirmed that Authenication Timeout does in fact mean how long the BES remembers your credentials before it will challenge you again. Apparently it changed between 4.1.7 and 5.0.0.

I've increased the timeout and now everyone is happy again.

Thanks freakinvibe for your help
