I am seeking your assistance on the below issue

Status = Losing hair rapidly


BES Server Version 5.0.2 MR3 (Bundle 119)
Microsoft Exchange Server SP1 Version 14.1.218.15

On different handsets (Torch Curve and Bold) running different OS versions 5.x and 6.x
If I make a recurring appointment or accepted Meeting based on a 10 day, Recurring once a day event
Only TWO appointments will appear in the Blackberry handset.
If I make TWO appointments then a third, One of the existing appts disappear
This behaviour is understandably disappointing.

As we don’t have an official BESAdmin, I am trying to establish a path to troubleshooting this
I have access to the servers as BES admin and have been trawling through the logs
We have been experiencing some issues that supposedly are at the telco/RIM firewall and are evidenced by a consistent dropping of the SRP connection
IEMSTEST runs OK permission wise but does have some issue with the below

User: Mailbox opened successfully

What information can I further flesh this post with to help you all help me better?

If you haven't configured EWS (it is not configured in a standard installation) the last error is ok (although for me it doesn't say "System.Exception" but just "not successful".

IEMSTest would be helpful if you can't sync your calendar at all, but obviously it works for non-recurring appointments, right?

Where are you creating the recurring appointment? In Outlook or on the Blackberry device?

EIther way is the same
. If appt/Mtg created on either BB or Outlook the same behaviour is exhibited.

Rocked the IEMSTST as I am at the end of my tether here. No SME on BES. I am as close as it gets (Yech)

Did/Could anyone try and recreate this issue at their shop?

Maybe I don't understand you correctly, but if you create the recurring appointment on Outlook and you have the same problem, isn't that an Outlook/Exchange issue then?

Just to recap, you are creating a recurring appointment that happens every day for ten days (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 May). You then only see the appointments on 1 and 2 May? So you see 10 appointments on Outlook and only 2 on the Blackberry?

I can't reproduce that here. It seems to work ok for me.

Attempt to clarify below...

If I make 5 recurring appts/Mtgs, recurring once a day for a 10 day period at 1,2,3,4 and 5 PM on a monday within Outlook 2010.
I will only ever see 2 on the Blackberry.

If I make appts/Mtgs, recurring once a day for a 10 day period at 1 and 2 PM, Then subsequently make more at lets say 3,4,and 5 Pm starting the same day for the same period. I only ever see 2 on the handset.

I can actually see the recurring appts/Mtgs disappear on the handset.

If I make appts/Mtgs, recurring once a day for a 10 day period On the handset they stay.

Hope that this is clearer.

I did exactly the same as you did, so I got 5 recurring appointments with the following descriptions on Outlook 2010:

Recurrence: Occurs every day effective 01.05.11 until 10.05.11 from 13:00 to 13:30
Recurrence: Occurs every day effective 01.05.11 until 10.05.11 from 14:00 to 14:30
Recurrence: Occurs every day effective 01.05.11 until 10.05.11 from 15:00 to 15:30
Recurrence: Occurs every day effective 01.05.11 until 10.05.11 from 16:00 to 16:30
Recurrence: Occurs every day effective 01.05.11 until 10.05.11 from 17:00 to 17:30

So in total that is 50 meetings then. I see the same on the Blackberry, so nothing is missing.

Are you inviting someone with the appointment or are you just creating appointments to yourself?

Yes: I have created both meetings with and without invitees:No difference
The fact that I cannot see any other threads that relate to this on fora and coupled with your testing indicates that this issue is likely to be related to our environment


I believe there is a fault with the setup of our BES that exists here and is likely unreproducable in a correctly setup environment.
I have recommended that we upgrade the BES to MR4 or SP3 dependent on what the business deems to be lest risky

I will post back here once that has been completed if the issue still exists

Hmm, strange. Maybe there are some currupted items in your calendar. Have you tried a complete reload of the calendar. To do this, on the device, go into your calendar, from the Options menu, type the following:

RSET

This will prompt for a reload of the calendar from the BES.

You can also check the MAGT logs for any errors related to the user that looses appointments.

This can sadly be reproduced on multiple handsets hence me thinknig it is BES related

However I am gonna test it Just in case

EDIT: I have tested this by RSET ing the handset(s) creating calendars then re rset ing the calendars

At no time do I see the Appts/Meetings match up tween Oylook and the BB
The BB is still exhibiting the same behaviour (For each 5 appts in Outlook I only ever see 2 in the Blackberry)
If I create an appt in the BB when I know there is an existing appt that I just created in Outlook it happily creates it in outlook without warning me there is a conflict. So I end up with say two appts at 10:30 as an example...

WHat should i be looking for in them in particular ?

Just search for the particular user around the time when the problem happens, look for any errors or warnings relating to calendar / CDO operations.

As you are using exchange 2010 make sure that your throttling policy for the BESADMIN is set to null

this is a known issue to cause calendar meeting to disappear
