I have inherited our current BES as one of my job role with no formal training so am hoping from some guidance\advice on upgrading.

We have BES 4.1.5 running on a 2003 server with Exchange 2003 and I need to upgrade to V 5 rto support the Mimecast DR services.

I have read through all the BB documentation and read many post across many forums and now want to get my P45!

My main queries are -
1. Do we need to purchase an upgrade?
2. If I do an inplace upgrade will the upgrade be seamless for users (apart from downtime during the actual upgrade) or do all the devices need reactivating?
3. We plan to upgrade to Exchange 2010 later this year so is there anything else I need to be aware of when doing this upgrade?
4. Will our current licenses be supported with V5?

Hoping someone can help!

1. If you go for full BES, yes, you need to buy an upgrade. If you go for BES Express, this is free.

2. People don't need to re-activate with an inplace upgrade.

3. No, the inplace upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0 is straight forward and independent of a possible future Exchange upgrade. For the Exchange upgrade you should read the following KB article: KB22601-How to migrate from Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 in a BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 environment
