Default Outlook broke BES

Please Login to Remove!

Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, I've been looking all day !

I have Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010 and BES Express 5.0.2 (Bundle 14).

Everything has been working fine for almost 12 months, however I have installed Outlook 2010 on the Server as MS wants it to help with some mailbox exporting and archiving.

Since I have installed Outlook, BES is no longer communicating with the handsets. I have done some research that seems to suggest that installing Outlook is not allowed with BES, but most of this is pre-2007.

I am also aware that it is something to do with MAPI, though I pick things up quickly, I am not technically trained.

Would welcome any suggestions on whether I definitely need to get rid of Outlook. I find it odd that these two bits of software would be incompatable when the whole point is to link communications up.

Thanks,

Osky

Outlook installed on the same box as BES is not a good thing and it is not supported by RIM. You are correct in assuming that MAPI is involved. This article should help you out:

KB10493-Microsoft Outlook is installed on the same computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Outlook is messing up your BES Mapi config, you have to repair it according to the article MasterofKarate has given.

Why not setup a virtual machine and use Outlook there. I would never use my BES for doing client stuff and Outlook is definitely a client application, not a server application.
