So I just came to look on the Blackberry website to see what I’d need to do to get our BES Express 5.0.2 MR1 box configured to work with a new Exchange 2010 server (we’re currently on 2003).

I see 5.0.3 is now out so I’m just downloading it.

A couple of questions I guess, firstly is anyone using 5.0.3 Express and is there any feedback on it?

Second, obviously when I setup our BES Express I followed the Blackberry tutorial videos to configure it with Exchange 2003. Now we have an Exchange 2010 box I’m assuming I “simply” run the command/processes listed for Exchange 2010 here KB22601-How to migrate from Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 in a BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 environment and I should be good to go?

Any feedback would be grand prior to diving in.

Thanks Knotty. From doing some digging one thing I did see highlighted is that some people have been told, apparently by RIM, that you should migrate all mailboxes of BES users at the same time to the 2010 box.

This isn't mentioned in the document, and doesn't sound right - don't suppose you or anyone else can confirm that you can have users on both Exchange versions during your migration to 2010?

Where did you see that? It is always good if you don't stay on two versions for to long, but I don't thing a "big bang" is needed here.

Seems to be the usual "couple of other threads on other forums" where the people posting it never report back.

Obviously the whole point of migrating is to get people off of 2003 and onto 2010 but I prefer to do it at a pace and let things settle before moving a few hundred people over.

I couldn't think of any sensible reason that co-existence should be a problem, but things don't have to make sense to be reality!

@hutchingsp I have had several customers that worked just fine in a mixed 2003/2010 or 2007/2010 environment for an extended time. As long as you make sure that your BESAdmin account permissions are good and the proper policy modifications are in place you'll be fine. That being said, you'll make things a lot easier on yourself if you get the migration done as quickly as possible.

It is still good practice to run the handheldcleanup whenever you move mailboxes.
