The BlackBerry Enteprise Transporter (a BRK tool) is created to allow moving users between a BES 5.0 server and a BES 4.1.7 or BES 4.0.6 servers which are having different BESMgmt databases. The main purpose is for user migration without having to wipe the devices.

Not all migratioins are tested and RIM has this compatibility matrix which may comes handy when you need it:-
