Default Installing updates in a cluster installation

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

We have two BES servers 5.0.2 in cluster, both sharing the BESMgmt database located in our sqlserver.

I wanted to know how is the process to install the maintenance releases, hotfixes or service packs.
Can I update the standby server while the primary server is working ? and then switch the primary to standby and update the other server in the cluster ?
What happen if the updates updating the sql database while the BES is working ?
Is ot possible to do i this way or I need to stop the BES service updating both servers at the same time ?

Thanks
Fabian.

When you say 'cluster' are you referring to the native High Availability (HA) features of BES 5?

OK, it's pretty simple. Here's what I do:

1. Do a manual failover from Primary to Standby.
2. Upgrade the Primary. (If the DB needs updating as well, it will update with the Standby running.)
3. After the Primary is updated, do another manual failover from Standby to Primary.
4. Upgrade the Standby.

Zero downtime for users.

I'd echo penguins post but if you have a standalone BAS as we do you might want to upgrade it first if it's a service pack or you can wind up breaking your BAS due to the database schema changing.
