Default Application deployment via groups

Please Login to Remove!

I am after some information on peoples experiences in deploying multiple apps to a large group of users.

1. Deploying the apps to more than 500 users.

2. Updating the version of the deployed apps.

Any issues you experienced and the best way you found to deploy a new app to all users and updating the application with a later version.

I have seen threads on deploying apps but not much on how the deployment went.

I understand how to deploy the apps, my interest in how to do this without impacting the performance of the BES too much. I have 4 apps to deploy to 250 users and 2 apps to deploy to 500 users.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

BES 5 will automatically throttle the deployment so it doesn't have too much of an adverse impact on server performance.
You can even tweak the job throttling settings if you need to.

Once set up (which can sometimes be tricky) software deployment via BES is one of those features that "just works".

On BES 5.0.2 with approx 2000 customers I baslined the BAS for 30 minutes then pushed out an app to 50 users and found zero impact on email latency.

I've made a slight text change in the Owner's Info and pushed that out via IT Policy to 500 users at a time with also almost no impact to the rest of the community. What I find is that the BAS pushes out to the first ~ 200 users very quickly, then spends some time before it can locate the other customers. 400 jobs usually finishes in about 2 hrs.

Also, KB05392 might be of interest if you're thinking of a different way of deploying apps.
