Angry meeting requests nightmare, feel like I've tried everything!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi.

I have an annoying problem with 3 users who are not receiving meeting requests on their handhelds. The rest of the users (3000 of them) are fine.

I've exhausted all the articles and threads I've come across online - everything seems to be as it should: -
  • bes service account permissions ok in exchange 2007
  • cdo ok
  • user has no delegates
  • no auto accept meetings configured
  • MAPIBlockOutlookNonCachedMode is set to false
  • Tried moving to different BES
  • Moved user to new BES 5 environment (currently in pre-production/UAT)
  • Tried moving mailbox to different Exchange store

Moving to new BES environment was helpful as I had much cleaner logs to trudge through (I'm no BES log expert by any stretch of the imagination).

I was planning on exporting calendar and removing it from the mailbox with mfcmapi. Then run outlook /resetfolders and test with a blank calendar before importing. But a colleague thinks this has already been tried so I don't hold out much hope.

Another colleague logged calls with our provider for this some time ago and they drew a blank - recreate the mailbox was their answer. Don't really want to recreate mailbox as this causes all sorts of hassle (political and technical) in our environment.

IEMSTEST for the user says this...

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Utility - IEMSTest.exe (IExchangeManageStore), Version 1.0
Copyright (c) Research In Motion, Ltd. 1999. All rights reserved.
Opening Default Message Store Mailbox - Blackberry Enterprise Server Administrator v4.1.6

REMOVED: Opening message store using REMOVED
REMOVED: Mailbox opened successfully
REMOVED: Root Folder opened successfully
REMOVED: Folder created successfully
REMOVED: Test folder deleted successfully
REMOVED: MAPI test completed successfully
REMOVED: CDO Server Name: REMOVED
REMOVED: CDO Mailbox DN: REMOVED
REMOVED: CDO logon successful
REMOVED: CDO COM exception: Code = 80040e08, WCode = 0c08, Code meaning = IDispatch error #3080 Description = [Collaboration Data Objects - [UNKNOWN_ERROR(80040820)]].
REMOVED: CDO test failed
REMOVED: Active Directory permissions test completed successfully
REMOVED: Unable to execute EwsTest
REMOVED: Could not open temporary file for EwsTest

MAGT log says this (when a request hits the mailbox - I think)...

[30001] (12/05 16:28:59.436):{0x23DC} CDOCalendar::Initialize - Code = 80040e08, WCode = 0c08, Code meaning = IDispatch error #3080,

[30180] (12/05 16:28:59.436):{0x23DC} {REMOVED} CDOCalendar::Initialize - Error in call m_spCalendarFolder = m_spCDOSession->GetDefaultFolder

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Sometimes this can work wonders

Backup device then in Outlook

goto file import/export
choose export to file
choose Persoanl folder pst, next
make sure calendar is highlighted and choose subfolders if you have them, next

save to desktop with a name you can remember, Finish
Click ok on screen popup

Go to view, arange by events
delete all entries.

KB04950 - How to reset the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application

close outlook and any word files, open outlook back up after 15 seconds.

Then
goto file import/export
import from another program or file, next
choose Persoanl folder pst, next
find the file and import
Choose highlight calendar and Finish
Change view back to what you want and try again.

Sorry for some basic questions:

The 3 users are not domain admins, or?
Did you try a "Reload user" on Admin console?
Did you try a "Synchronize Calendar" on Admin console?

As a last resort:

Delete user from BES, wipe device, re-add and activate

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I've checked all you suggested and tried variations on these themes already and again today. Still no joy.

The problem appears to be with the mailbox - even with all bb information removed from the mbx and a fresh calendar (hard deleted actual calendar folder with mfcmapi and used /resetfolders switch with outlook to force recreation), iemstest still fails on CDO.

The error messages and codes returned by iemstest return next to nothing when googled.

So, after a day's work butchering the user's mailbox, I'm back at square one!

Frustrating.

If I manage to resolve it, I'll post the resolution here.

export mailbox, remove mailbox from AD, wait till next day and add back in mail box, import mail and see if it is fine after.

I would do this on Friday night and add back in monday morning

Does the calendar sync in general work for those 3 users? Or is their calendar on the BB device empty.

In other words, is it just that the meeting requests don't arrive, but all other calendar sync works?

wonder if the 3 users are long term emplyees that were in a special group once.

ASDIEdit might help shed some light on it if you compare a non working account to a good one

Well, after trying everything I could think of, this never got resolved... but I did manage to find a work around!

Unfortunately due to dependencies and complexities of the environment, recreating mailboxes really isn't an option

In the end, I've managed to work around it by configuring BES / Exchange for EWS calendaring. This has restored calendar functionality to all affected users!! (more importantly, it hasn't broken any existing users who were working).

I worked through this BTSC article - KB20157-How to enable BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 to use Microsoft Exchange Web Services

Note that the syntax in task 8 appears incorrect. There's no scope set. I was working at a global BlackBerry Domain level, so added -global which got it working.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
