Default Wifi internet access path - internal network?

Please Login to Remove!

How do I force the use of the WiFi browser in OS7 when the device is in the home network of the BES ?

I have a 5.x device. Here I can choose the browser - no problem.

But with a 9900 (OS v7.1) everything I tried does not work.

KB23699-Simplified browser selection in BlackBerry 6

explains various methods how the browser is selected, But it looks like none of these match my desires.

With all settings to default I thought, that, when I specify the FQDN of a machine in the network of the BES the WiFi browser will be selected, because, the domain name does contain a period (the network is a private IP range, but I hoped since I dont specify the IP and instead the FQDN this will be ignored).
Then, the next browser which will be used is the WiFi browser.
Does not work.

Changing the value in the "Wi-Fi Internet Access Path" in the policy or the WiFi profile also does not help, because this rule defines how the BB should access the internet, but I want to access the private network.

From my past knowlege I think I remember, this worked with OS6, but I dont have a OS6 device availible for testing.
The BES is 5.0.3MR4.

Anyone knows how this should behave, or how I can force the WiFi browser in the internal network ?

Edit: for whatever reason it did not work yesterday, but today it works like expected. I should have checked again before starting the thread.

To access a host using the WiFi browser inside your BES home network, use the FQDN of the host.

followup:
turns out, the 9900 behaves rather random then predictable. Now, it again uses the MDS browser to connect to the internal web-server.
Maybe this is related to the OS 7.1.0.190 beta "release" I installed on the Handheld ? I will wait until an official release is out and try again.

Does it work fine by IP?

If I use the IP: uses MDS
if I use only the first part of the hostname (host): uses MDS
if I use the FQDN (host.domain.com): uses WiFi

This is what I would expect, and, how it behaves today, but did not yesterday.

I have now removed the SIM card to make sure nothing is send via the UMTS/GPRS network and try again a couple of times.
